Correlation between neonatal outcomes of twins depends on the outcome : Secondary analysis of twelve randomised controlled trials
2018
ObjectiveTo estimate the magnitude of the correlation between neonatal outcomes of twins and demonstrate how this information can be used in the design of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) in women with twin pregnancies.DesignSecondary analysis of data from 12 RCTs.SettingObstetric care in multiple countries, 2004-2012.Population or sample4504 twin pairs born to women who participated in RCTs to assess treatments given during pregnancy.MethodsIntraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) were estimated using log-binomial and linear models.Main outcome measuresPerinatal death, respiratory distress syndrome, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, intraventricular haemorrhage, necrotising enterocolitis, s…
Spanning Trees and bootstrap reliability estimation in correlation based networks
2007
We introduce a new technique to associate a spanning tree to the average linkage cluster analysis. We term this tree as the Average Linkage Minimum Spanning Tree. We also introduce a technique to associate a value of reliability to links of correlation based graphs by using bootstrap replicas of data. Both techniques are applied to the portfolio of the 300 most capitalized stocks traded at New York Stock Exchange during the time period 2001-2003. We show that the Average Linkage Minimum Spanning Tree recognizes economic sectors and sub-sectors as communities in the network slightly better than the Minimum Spanning Tree does. We also show that the average reliability of links in the Minimum …
Comparison of the dynamics of the AU and PC indices
1998
The properties of AU and PC data were analyzed with different methods. It is shown that the dynamical behavior of the AU and PC time series, as analyzed by the structure function (SF), are very similar, while the SF of the AL time series shows different behavior. The SF of the AL data has a slope of 0.5 up to about 2 hours, after which it quickly decreases to about 0.1. On the other hand the slope of the SFs of AU and PC data continuously decreases to about 0.2, and in a longer time scale. It is suggested that the dissipative auroral electrojet currents have a characteristic time scale of 2 hours, and this underlies the AL dynamics. In contrast with this, the nondissipative Hall currents th…
In-beam?-ray spectroscopy of102In
1993
Neutron deficient nuclei close to100Snhave been investigated in-beam by γ-ray spectroscopic methods using the NORDBALL detector array. A beam of 270 MeV58Niwas used to bombard a target of54Fe.Reaction channel separation was achieved with a 4π charged particle multidetector setup together with a 1π neutron detector wall placed in the forward direction. Excited states of102Inwere identified for the first time. The level scheme constructed from γ-γ-particle-coincidence and γ-γ-angular correlation analysis is presented. The structure of102In is discussed and compared to neighboring nuclei in the framework of the nuclear shell-model.

Short-range correlations and neutrinoless double beta decay
2007
In this work we report on the effects of short-range correlations upon the matrix elements of neutrinoless double beta decay. We focus on the calculation of the matrix elements of the neutrino-mass mode of neutrinoless double beta decays of 48Ca and 76Ge. The nuclear-structure components of the calculation, that is the participant nuclear wave functions, have been calculated in the shell-model scheme for 48Ca and in the proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation (pnQRPA) scheme for 76Ge. We compare the traditional approach of using the Jastrow correlation function with the more complete scheme of the unitary correlation operator method (UCOM). Our results indicate that the Jast…
Analytical method, pattern and sources of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the stone of the Temples of Agrigento (Italy)
2009
Abstract This study shows the extraction and analytical conditions for the determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the stone of archaeological and historical interest. The aim of this research was to determine the concentrations, distribution and the main sources of PAHs present in the surface layer of stone of the Temples of Agrigento. Together with PAHs, we analyzed sulphates and nitrates since it has been demonstrated that these are very destructive salts that play an important role in the deterioration of stones. Total PAHs at different sites of the Valley of Temples at Agrigento varied from 18 to 84 μg/kg. Analyses were performed by GC–MS. The relative abundance of …
PARENTS’ IMPACT ON STUDENTS’ READING ACHIEVEMENT
2020
Scientific studies have proved that a family has a high impact on the students’ academic achievement, including their reading literacy. This paper focuses on the parents’ undertaken activities for promoting the development of child’s reading literacy at the preschool age (reading together, singing, discussing the read text with a child, playing together, etc.) to explore the impact of these activities upon the reading literacy achievement of students in Grade 4. The research problem addresses the following questions: whether and to what extent the parents’ undertaken activities for promoting the development of child’s reading literacy at the preschool age have an impact on students’ reading…
Consumers’ Behavior in Decision-Making in Foodstuff Purchasing Process
2018
The purpose of this research is developing of model of market segmentation for food consumers, as well as determination the extent of influence of various factors influencing the behavior of the Latvian consumers while making the decision on purchase of these goods. In the course of the research approaches to market segmentation of food products consumers were used, as well as statistical data for Latvian food product market, described in literature, also the results of empirical researches. As a result the model of market segmentation for food consumers was developed, the extent of influence of various factors influencing the behavior of the Latvian consumers was determined based on the co…
